July 2007 Workshop
The July workshop at Celeste's hives was very interesting. Dave led the workshop and we had a good turnout.
Celeste has 17 hives in various stages of development. This one has 3 supers on and David is checking it out.
After that, we looked at a hive with only one deep that is starting slow- one opinion of that was the worry that the stand with the blocks with the holes facing up were bringing too much moisture into the hive, so we turned them on their side and moved them apart a little for ventilation.
The next hive was a captured swarm that was found in a huge birdhouse. They put the bees and the wax in the bottom of a hive box,
Then put another deep on top with the frames and foundations. David decided to remove the bottom deep and shake the bees into the hive on the foundations that had been sitting above it.
As you can see from the honeycomb, it had been in the birdhouse for quite a while.
We left a little ramp up to the box and they seemed to move up quite well.
Everyone felt that they learned a lot.
